Green Mid-Century Modern - my sister's moodboard!

Soothing peaceful green
I've convinced my sister that the Hollywood Regency style would suit her and the way she likes to entertain - casual, comfortable elegance.  So Susan - here you are...now all that's left is the buying!

Also - how could I forget Florence Broadhurst prints which she covets.

A picture paints a million feelings...

I love beautiful art, because it is a way to express the human condition in colour and shapes.  However I think what is more impactful to me is truly beautiful photography.  Of course we all know the celeb photographers like Annie Leibowitz, Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon, but I follow photographers who really are artists in their own right.

This is how I feel about Michael Eastman.  He is a true photographic artist.  Not only does he feature my favourite colour quite a bit (green) he looks at lines of architecture and landscape and finds something moving in every shot.  His works are highly collectible and he is represented by galleries in New York, USA.

I feel with his work I'm intruding in on a very private scene - looking through a keyhole or a door into another room.  Eastman seems to relish and delight in those things that aren't accessible, that are vanishing or in decay.  Enjoy these truly inspiring works of art courtesy of Michael Eastman Images.

Cuba - Green Interior, finally found my Havana green!
Rome - River God (doesn't this feel like you're spying on someone?)

Cuba - Blue Arch

Urban landscapes - Brick reflection
Landscapes - Hillside, Montana

He photographs European architecture to Midwestern storefronts. His work is in many collections, including those of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the International Center of Photography in New York City, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Eastman has been the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant and has been published in Time, The New York Times, Life, American Photographer, and Communication Arts. He lives in St. Louis, Missouri in the US.

Beautiful hotels - glorious design

Oyster Bay Hotel, Durban, South Africa Source: Verandah House

Oyster Bay Hotel, Durban, South Africa
This beautiful hotel located in Durban, South Africa has the most beautiful interiors.  These pictures were featured on the fabulous blogsite Verandah House.  I love the clean white lattice effects set against turquoise soft furnishings, wood and gilt lighting.  Love with molto passion the cream beaded chandelier.

But wait....there's more.  Also featured on this blog was a fabulous hotel in Penang, Malaysia - the Eastern & Oriental Hotel.

Windows in frame

Stained glass or bevelled, windows seem to hold some kind of attraction.  You just have to look at my blog background!  It says it all. I like the way windows provide an optical point to a room, and can change lighting in rooms.  These are just a few snapshots of some of the windows I like.

Antique glass window

Stained glass at its best!

Arched windows are beautiful and give a majestic feel to a room

Stained glass window - Canterbury Cathedral

Window?  Glass roof really Galleries Lafayette, Paris

The frames that make up this window give the room order

Arched window - is there anything more to say?

Peace at last.  Arched window, pink & green decor.
